"I see paint as a three-dimensional object. As the child of a carpenter, I spent my youth on construction sites where my imagination was activated by the visuals of the environment, especially the old paint.
"To my understanding, the bulldozer and yellow were inseparable. The dumpster is green. The wall is white. Colors had form. A person could circle around a color. Objects were built of color. And these objects were painted and repainted and painted yet again. The surface reflected the present while maintaining the visibility of the lower layers, which invited one into the past. Paint is a time machine.
"In school, tradition presents painting as a two-dimensional process, but I could not be satisfied with an illusion of three-dimensionality. Yet, despite transitioning away from stretched canvas to constructed forms, I understood that I am a painter and not a sculptor. The purpose of the form is to create a physical path for paint to lead the viewer into the history of human endeavors." ~ Paul Genader
